How to Make Vegan Caramel?
When we hear the word caramel, our initial thought is it is loaded with milk, butter, and cream. But as a vegan, those are just red flags for us! As a caramel lover, I had to come up with a vegan caramel recipe. So, I did! This vegan caramel recipe will be fully stocked in my fridge forever!
At first, I thought the idea of making homemade vegan caramel is out of my league but now after some research and hard work, I found the perfect recipe for vegan caramel. It’s creamy, smooth, caramel-y, perfectly, and naturally sweet! So delicious and easy to make. You are going to be amazed by knowing how easy this vegan caramel recipe is to make!

Vegan Caramel Recipe
Ingredients
- 1 cup of brown sugar
- 1/4 cup of water
- half cup of vegan butter
- half cup of maple syrup or agave nectar
- one-third cup of coconut milk
- ¼ teaspoon of sea salt
- 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract
Let’s make it
First, add 1 cup of brown sugar and salt to a pan with medium heat. Then add ¼ cup of water and start stirring for about 5-10 minutes. Keep stirring until the brown sugar melts into a smooth liquid.
Now turn the heat to medium-high and here ends the caramelization step, let the sugar cook and bubble for 4-5 minutes until you will see it getting deep golden brown.
If you see it starts to bubble too much then simply reduce the heat to control the bubbling!
After the caramelization, part removes the pan from heat and slowly stir in all the ingredients vanilla extract, maple syrup, vegan butter, and coconut milk in increments.
After everything is added, let the pan rest for a minute, then transfer this to a serving bowl.
You will see the caramel thicken more while cooling! Then you are ready to pour it over all of your favorite desserts.
You can fridge it up for up to 5 days in a sealed container, just give it a good stir before each use.

Some additional tips:
- We used coconut milk for the recipe. If you have coconut cream in hand try to make it with that. It will turn out more delicious.
- If you want you also can use coconut sugar instead of brown sugar. but I like brown sugar better
- if the caramel turns out thin you can use a little bit of cornstarch to make it thicker in texture
Ideas for using the caramel you made
As the cozy fall season here you do not need many ideas to use caramel. You will spontaneously reach for the caramel you just made. But here are some ideas you can try out to taste the deliciousness.
With apple slices
When you just made the caramel but can’t find anything to try with, slice some apple and pour the caramel on it. This simple thing can change the taste of apples so much.
On popcorn
The last thing I would want is bland popcorn. Your popcorn will taste so much better if you mix the caramel with it. A movie night with caramel popcorn sounds exciting!
On pancakes
Pancakes are the best for breakfast. When you mix caramel with it instead of just maple syrup it will be the best. Kids will never keep unfinished pancakes again!
Mix with yogurt
Are you still eating plain yogurt? Just mix some caramel with the yogurt you are having. You will never want plain yogurt ever.
For baking
If you are making cinnamon rolls or any brownies add your vegan caramel with the existing recipe. it will turn out better than ever.
Final thoughts
Creamy and smooth caramel is perfect for any time of the year. Make big batches of caramel and use whenever you want some. You can refrigerate a stack for one week. You may need to reheat the caramel when you use it for any recipe.
